Today, April 8, 2024, a magnificent total solar eclipse will traverse the skies of North America, marking its presence across Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This celestial event is set to commence above the southern stretches of the Pacific Ocean. If the weather is favorable, the first landmass within North America to witness the total eclipse will be along the Pacific shoreline of Mexico at approximately 11:07 a.m. PDT.
As the total solar eclipse embarks on its journey northward, it will make its grand entrance into the United States at Texas, weaving its way across several states, including Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Even slivers of Tennessee and Michigan will be graced with the sight of the complete eclipse. The cosmic journey continues into Canada, starting in Southern Ontario and moving through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. The spectacular event, lasting several hours, will conclude its North American overture off the Atlantic shores of Newfoundland, Canada, at precisely 5:16 p.m. NDT.
If you don't have your glasses or do not reside in North America, you can watch it live on NASA's YouTube channel. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/live/J5j95RUSLd8?si=zbQCBrQ6rPrbMKVx
Don't fret if you miss it. The next solar eclipse in North America will be August 23, 2044.
